Victoria’s Maternal and Child Health service is a nationally recognised universal health platform supporting mothers, parents, families and children from birth through the early years.
With a history spanning more than a century, the service has evolved to meet the changing needs of Victorian communities. Delivered in partnership with local government, it provides a structured schedule of key age and stage consultations, first-time parent groups, additional support for families with emerging needs, and Enhanced Maternal and Child Health services for families experiencing greater complexity.
As a long-standing and trusted part of Victoria’s service landscape, Maternal and Child Health is an essential public service. However, like all important institutions, it must continue to adapt. Service models, workforce arrangements, organisational capability, governance structures and practice frameworks need to be regularly reviewed to ensure they remain responsive, sustainable and aligned with contemporary evidence, policy and community need.
KF Consulting has supported a number of Victorian local governments to review, strengthen and plan for the future of their Maternal and Child Health services.
Recent work has included a strategic and operational review of the City of Greater Dandenong’s Maternal and Child Health service, supporting Council to consider service alignment, organisational context and future service delivery priorities.
KF Consulting also undertook a review of the City of Whittlesea’s Enhanced Maternal and Child Health service. This work focused on service design, implementation, workforce sustainability, clinical governance, service quality, financial sustainability and alignment with the needs of a rapidly growing and diverse municipality. The review considered both qualitative and quantitative data, including consultation with staff, leadership, internal stakeholders and external partners.
For the City of Casey, Victoria’s largest Maternal and Child Health service, KF Consulting supported the development of a comprehensive MCH Workforce Strategy. This work was designed to support a sustainable workforce pipeline and ensure the service could continue to attract, develop and retain highly skilled staff.
KF Consulting has also worked with Moira Shire Council on a Strategic Service Review of Immunisation and Maternal and Child Health Services. This review focused on the sustainability, quality and future delivery of universal and enhanced early years and preventive health services in a rural and regional context.
KF Consulting is also providing supervision for local government inner south metropolitan councils MCH nurse graduates and early career practitioners. This work reflects our broader commitment to building workforce capability, reflective practice and high-quality service delivery.
